The size that actually fits
Kids do not fit the labels. A twelve-month-old in a 12M is a different shape from one the following January, and that is the whole reason exchanges exist. Measure once with a tape, keep the tape, and this page does the rest.

The chart
Garment measurements in inches, not the child’s body — this is what the clothes measure flat, which is what you are buying. Standard bands for the Indian market.
| Age | Label | Chest | Waist | Length | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0–3 months | 0–3M | 13–14″ | 12–13″ | 10″ | Full-length bodysuits |
| 3–6 months | 3–6M | 14–15″ | 13–14″ | 11″ | Start at the bigger end |
| 6–9 months | 6–9M | 15–16″ | 14–15″ | 12″ | Sit-to-crawl fits |
| 9–12 months | 9–12M | 16–17″ | 15–16″ | 13″ | Most walkers start here |
| 12–18 months | 12–18M | 17–18″ | 16–17″ | 14″ | Toddler sizes begin |
| 18–24 months | 18–24M | 18–19″ | 17–18″ | 15″ | The awkward growth year |
| 2–3 years | 2–3Y | 19–20″ | 18–19″ | 16″ | Measure before ordering |
| 3–4 years | 3–4Y | 20–21″ | 19–20″ | 17″ | Allow for a winter layer |
| 4–5 years | 4–5Y | 21–22″ | 20–21″ | 18″ | School-ready sizing |
Any single garment can run a centimetre out from these bands. If you are between two, take the larger one — a night suit that is a size too big still gets worn, and a romper that is too small gets taken off halfway through the night.
